Introduction
The Howgills Bunk Barn is a converted barn for group accommodation sleeping up to 35 people. The accommodation is in Sedbergh - a five-minute drive from the Main Street. The building consists of 8 rooms all ensuite, 2 kitchens - one with a dining area, an open plan lounge and dining area, a laundry/drying room, a communal shower room and toilets and a study/recreational room. The Bunk Barn is set in its own grounds with two patio areas. It is a privately owned building, which is managed by 'Cobble Country Holidays' who will assist you in any way possible during your stay.
Pre-Arrival
Booking can be made via phone, fax, email and also on the online booking facility. On the website fonts can be enlarged and the colors and contrast can also be changed. There is limited public transport but the nearest bus stop is approx 1mile away opposite the police station on 'Long Lane'. The Bunk Barn is at the top of a country lane, which is 5 minutes away from the shops, pubs, post office, etc. Kendal is the nearest big town and this is 10 miles away and there is a bus service there at least twice a day. Kendal town is where the nearest shop mobility scheme operates and also holds disabled facilities. Wheelchairs and other basic equipment can be arranged in advance for hire from the local Health Center on 'Loftus Hill'. Guests without a vehicle can pre book basic grocery items prior to their stay.
Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
There is ample parking at the Bunk Barn approximately 10 allocated spaces, where 3 of these can be reserved. - There is allocated parking spaces for guests with disabilities at the top entrance - this entrance will allow access into the Bunk Barn on the first floor where the special accessibility bedroom is located along with the open plan lounge and dining area and kitchen. - From where the vehicles drop off point is, its 6meters to this entrance on level flagged flooring. There is a kerb onto the flagged area, which is 2cm height but there is gravel leading up to the kerb.
- Once a vehicle is parked here there is rear access. - Guests are greeted on arrival by the housekeeper who goes through the fire procedures and will show you how electric items operate.
Main Entrance & Reception
There are two main doors to enter the Bunk Barn. One on the ground floor and the disabled access entrance on the first floor. Both doors are side hung and are 87cm wide leading onto a carpeted floor. - Lighting in both entrances is bright, uniform lighting and also natural from the door glass panes. At the bottom reception there is a pen and pad available and also desk and chair, which is 72cm high. In this area the widest point is 1.5meters and the narrowest is 1.1meters. - The color contrast in both areas is magnolia walls with mahogany doorframes, staircase and skirting boards. The carpet is light brown. - From the bottom entrance there is a staircase to the top entrance, this is 108cm wide and there are 15 steps - 16cm high -29cm deep with stainless steel nosing. There is also handrail on each side 94cm high. There is one doormat at each entrance.
Public Areas - General (Internal)
Corridor on ground floor is 93cm wide and the same upstairs. - The lounge and dining area have level flagged flooring. - There are soft furnishing and small coffee tables that can be moved. - In the dining area there is 5 dining tables, 160cm long, 80cm wide and 72cm high with 23 wooden chairs with steel legs and some with arms. - Throughout the Bunk Barn its non smoking, however their are smoking bins provided outside. - Only working dogs are allowed in the public areas - The lighting in this public area is both natural from the large windows and doors to the patio and also bright wall lights and spotlights. - A Mezzanine area above the 1st floor kitchen (off the corridor from the top floor entrance) provides a study and recreational space. There are 14 steps to this area, 111cm wide with steel nosing. The steps are 16cm high, 27cm depth and there is a handrail on both sides 96cm high. The flooring is carpet and is all level. The seating is movable soft furnishings and the rooms decor is contrasting with natural lighting and uniform lighting. There is emergency lighting throughout these
areas.
Public Areas - WC
There are two public toilets in the lower floor entrance. These have tiled flooring, natural and uniform lighting with contrasting decor. The heights of these toilets are 42cm and the basin is 87cm high. Both doors are 75cm wide. All the 8 rooms are ensuite with a w.c, washbasin and wet room. - The toilet for people with accessibility needs is location on the 1st floor in bedroom 'H' just adjacent to the top floor entrance. The toilet height is 48cm and there are tubular chrome support rails either side; on the left attached to the wall at a height of 61cm and a pull down support rail on the right hand side which is 75cm high. Transfer space is 8.27sq ft. The basin has under space and also has support rails either side, left 87cm and right 81cm high. The flooring is level tiles however their is a step of 13cm into the shower. The shower has a folding chair inside- 50cm high and a support rail. The shower taps are at arms length away once seated. The decor in this bathroom is contrasting with cream wall tiles and chrome and white accessories. There are coat hooks behind the door and to the side of the washbasin. Lighting in this room is natural and uniform. Above the toilet there is an emergency pull cord.

Laundry
The Laundry room is location on the ground floor off the corridor. The door into this room is 80cm wide. The laundry room contains a top loading washing machine and a front-loading dryer, both 92cm high. The flooring is level flags and the lights are bright uniform and emergency lighting. The signage on the machines is clear, pictorial and have diagrams.

Bedrooms
The bedroom for people with accessibility needs is on the first floor adjacent to the top entrance. The width of the door into this room is 87cm. The flooring is level tiles throughout. The sleeping arrangements are 2 double beds and 2 twin beds (including a single over double bunk bed). One double bed can be accessed from both sides the other can only be accessed from one. The height of these beds are 48cm including the mattress and the height of the top twin bunk bed is 117cm. All the beds are movable. The decor is contrasting and the lighting is natural and uniform - each bed also has its own wall-mounted spotlight. A familiarisation tour is given on arrival.
Bathroom, Shower-room & WC [Ensuite or Shared]
Please note that there are 7 bedrooms downstairs with the 2 public w.c off the entrance hall. The bathroom for people with accessibility needs is in the first floor bedroom 'Room H'. - This bathroom and the public w.c explained in 'Public Areas - Wc'.
Self-Catering Kitchen
There are two kitchens within the Bunk Barn, one on the 1st floor and one on the ground floor. The one that is more suitable for people with accessibility needs is the one on the first floor. This is located off the lounge and dining area. The door into the kitchen is 80cm wide and the worktops are 93cm high. There is a double stainless steel mixer tap sink with no under space just cupboards. The crockery cupboards are 40cm above the worktops and there are two electric ovens with a drop down oven door and with 4 hobs level to the worktop. The fridge and freezer are free standing and the handle height is 114cm for the freezer and 109cm for the fridge. The flooring in both kitchens is level tiles, bright uniform lighting and contrasting decor. - In the downstairs kitchen the worktop height is the same. The width of the door is 79cm and the dining area contains 4 wooden dining tables with steel legs - 76cm high, 120cm long and 76cm wide. There are 16 wooden chairs

Grounds and Gardens
The Bunk Barn is located in its own grounds. - Paths around the outside of the Barn are open and are hard surfaces. - There is no through traffic externally.
- There is a patio to the rear of the Bunk Barn off the Lounge. The flooring here is flagged and level throughout. There are seats and picnic tables with umbrellas in this area. - The patio area is 6 meters by 14 meters.
Additional Information
In each room of the Bunk Barn there is a map indicating where the nearest fire exit it from that point and also where the assembly point is. - Guests are taken through the evacuation procedure on arrival. - There is a sounding fire alarm in every room. - As mentioned working dogs are welcome but please inform us prior to your arrival so these facilities can be put out e.g water and food bowls. - Music can be reduced on request. - No smoking in the building bins provided outside. - All the doors in the Bunk Barn are side hung. - Light switches and power points are positioned at a sensible height to reach from sitting and standing. - Good mobile phone reception
